Other colleagues who collaborate and work with KidAbilities Therapists:
Speech and Language Services: Speech and language therapy services are available onsite at Chatterbox Speech and Language Services.
KidAbilities shares our 10,000 square foot establishment with Chatterbox. We maintain a collaborative and collegial relationship with Chatterbox. Our administrative staffs will work together when scheduling children who require both speech/language therapy as well as occupational therapy. In addition, our clinical staff will work together as an OT/ST team to ensure carryover and maximal gains by your child. You may reach Chatterbox at 914-345-2400.
"Positive Solutions": Family Centered Counseling Services for Children with Sensory Processing Disorders: Joel H. Staussner, Ph.D. Jennifer Brout,.Ed.M., Psy. D. Committed to collaborating with OT's and working in a cross disciplinary manner to address social and behavioral needs of children with SPD. Services include:
- Sensory Integration Home Consultation Program: The Psychologist will work in conjunction with the family and the OT in order to plan an in home "sensory diet" program that addresses the needs of the child within the context of the family.
- Family Counseling: This is a family focused therapy appropriate for children with SPD (sensory processing disorder). The goal is for the child to be able to regulate his/her reactions to sensory input and, thereby control the emotional and behavioral manifestation of these responses through a combination of sensory integrative and cognitively based strategies mediated by "parent / child attachment" theory.
- School consultation / Advocacy
Developmental Optometry: Currently KidAbilities staff collaborates with a number of developmental or 'behavioral" optometrists in the surrounding community. If our therapists suspect a problem in this area we provide parents with a referral to a qualified practitioner. The OT can sometimes incorporate some exercises into a child's OT program or work collaboratively with the optometrist to ensure a child's success.
Nutritional Counseling: Renee Simon MS, Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist and author of the new book "Take Back Your Health" collaborates with KidAbilities' staff regarding nutrition, allergies, the DAN diet etc. A clinical nutritionist adds to the program of a child with ADD, ADHD, PDD, Autism, Allergies, Behavioral Issues, learning problems, etc. by assessing how diet, allergies/sensitivities and heavy metals effect eating, sleeping, digestion, behavior and learning.
Personal Training: Beth Seeger, a personal trainer for 14 years has developed group exercise programs for elementary school children. She is now providing personal training for children, individually, in order to build self esteem, develop specific motor skills, work on general conditioning, improve flexibility, increase endurance and strengthen muscles. If your child has gained maximal benefit from therapy or has outgrown the play - based approach to therapy, but still has subtle sports, athletic or conditioning needs, personal training could fill the need.
