KidAbilities

How do I know if my child needs therapy?
An in-depth evaluation can help determine a child's need for therapy. One of KidAbilities expert evaluators will work one-on-one with any child, birth through adolescence to determine what is causing a child's difficulty. We are also happy to plan a program based on an evaluation completed elsewhere.

Standardized Assessments we use:
  • Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT)
  • Brunicks Osertsky Test of Motor Proficiency (B & O)
  • Miller Assessment for Preschoolers (MAP)
  • DVPT
  • MVPT
  • Beery Test of Visual Motor Integration (VMI)
  • Peabody
  • Toddler Infant Motor Evaluation (TIME)
  • School Function Assessment (SFA)
  • Etch
  • Sensory Profile
What does therapy involve?
Our trained staff utilizes the most current techniques with state of the art equipment in our 2000 square feet of treatment space. Since children learn, grow and change through play, that is what treatment looks like. More importantly, that's what children feel they are doing.
What kind of pproblems are addressed?
Combining an in-depth understanding of typical development, traditional therapy techniques and cutting edge treatment strategies each child's unique challenges can be met. Therapy can:
  • Facilitate dressing, eating and independence in hygiene
  • Develop a child's sense of balance and equilibrium
  • Improve catching and throwing
  • Diminish fearfulness
  • Decrease sensitivity to touch, movement, sound or crowded places
  • Improve gross and fine motor skills.
  • Increase dexterity
  • Decrease recklessness and/or impulsivity.
  • Decrease anxiety
  • Impact attention span
  • Improve handwriting
  • Improve adaptive behavior
Where is therapy provided?
Therapy can be provided in your home, at a child's school or at KidAbilities. Our 1,000 square foot specialized gym looks like an inviting indoor playground in which children can develop gross motor skills, balance and coordination. Our second 600 square foot gym and smaller therapy rooms accomodate other kinds of activities that address fine motor, writing and sensory issues. KidAbilities is especially proud of the dedicated occupational therapists that provide the expert service. Many have advanced certification in Sensory Integration Therapy, Neurodevelopmental Therapy, and Interactive Metronome or therapeutic listening. Therapists may incorporate "sensory diets", Wilbarger's "brushing" protocol and craniosacral therapy to name a few cutting edge techniques. There is true collaboration amongst therapists all overseen by the supervision of the director of Kidabilities. More information is available on our staff page.
